Jan will be running everyday workshops titled Shimmer Stars which will incorporate angelina fibres, organza and free motion stitching on Janome sewing machines. The class will cost £5 and if you are interested in taking part it is advised to book her class in advance. You can do this by visiting her workshop page by clicking this link below.
Jan Tillett is a textile designer/maker living and working in Devon, her lifelong addiction to textiles began to show more direction while studying for an HND in Spatial Design at Somerset College of Arts and Technology. “I began designing embroidered textiles to place within interior schemes and realised I was much more interested in the textiles than the interior design! I now work full-time as a textile artist and tutor.”
The inspiration for my textiles comes mainly from natural forms and textures.
From the tiniest of seeds to a stretch of landscape, colour and texture can be seen all around, often in unexpected combinations.
To make the embroidered textiles, I build up layers of fabric, which are then stitched and manipulated, sometimes with a heat gun, sometimes by cutting back into the layers and always adding more stitching until I am happy with the fabric made. The embroidered fabric is then used to make a bag - either as a whole fabric or as a panel or decorative feature.
