An intro to Scrumble Crochet

Scrumble crochet is a free form crochet art where you build up in layers and add embelishments to each piece.  Once you have learnt this technique you can make lots of lovely items including bags, cushions scarves and much more just let your imagination run wild!   In this class we will learn to make a simple brooch using various yarns, beads and buttons.  At the end of the class you will have a pretty brooch to take home.  All materials supplied.

An intro to Carding and Spinning from Raw fleece

Running Time: 2:30pm-4:15pm

An introduction to carding and spinning from raw fleece.  Have you ever thought you might like to learn to spin you own yarns?  This is your chance to try before you buy. Learn to prepare and spin your own yarns from raw fleece using traditional methods of carding and hand spinning on an Ashford traditional wheel.  In this class you will learn to card (comb) the raw fleece in preparation for spinning the fleece and then how to spin and ply the fleece.

Learn to weave on peg looms

This is a fun class learning to weave on peg looms which are a great introduction to the art of weaving and an affordable and accessible way to create beautiful cushions and rugs for your home or accessories such as handbags for yourself.  You can also make fabulous wall hangings and pictures once you have learn the technique of weaving with fibre using different textures and colours.  All materials supplied.

Wonky-Eyed Birds

Running Time: 1:15pm-2:15pm

Location: Balcony Stand G16 - Big Sky Textiles

Cost to attend: £8

Take a break from the busy show to spend an hour making your own little characterful bird at this creative and mindful hand-sewing workshop. We’ll use beautiful woollen fabric and British wool stuffing and then bring the birds to life with vintage buttons, handspun yarns, silk threads and beads. All materials are provided for the workshop. You will need confidence in some very basic sewing techniques to make your bird but it’s nothing at all complicated!

Fifty Bees

Running Time: 11:00am-1:00pm

Cost to Attend: FREE

Make British Bees in Needle Felted wool and stitch with Lydia Needle of FIFTY BEES.
Watch as bees emerge from the wool as you learn how it can be moulded and sculpted.
Running from 11am till 1pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday and each bee takes 1.5 to 2 hours so do plan your time. First come first served.
Uses sharp tools so suitable for ages 8 upward, under 16s must be supervised by an adult.
The bees will be kept by Lydia to be added to the growing installation which will be on show in Somerset in 2022

Needle felt a Christmas decoration using wire armature. This project can be tricky for beginners, though more than welcome to attend. Cost £8-00 pre booking essential to guarantee a slot.

Learn to be a master at Fair Isle Knitting

Have you struggled with Fair Isle Knitting?                    

Join Search Press author Monica to create your own pieces of Fair Isle. You will master the skills of changing yarn colours, reading charts and patterns and be able to produce your own Fair Isle samples to take home. This workshop is for people who can cast on and off and knit and purl confidently. All yarns and tools will be provided.

Block Printing On Fabric Intro.

Batik Taster Workshop

Running Time: 11:00am

Location: Mendip Hall Stand M5 - Jo Whiteland

Cost To Attend: £10

Learn the art of batik: applying wax onto fabric as a resist before painting on fabric dyes. There will be time to apply wax using tjantings (Indonesian wax pens) and brushes and painting on dyes twice to build up colour and texture.

You will produce a final design (approx 25cm x 25cm) to take away with instructions on how to finish at home. 4 designs to choose from or create your own. Maximum 6 people, each design should take approximately 90 mins to finish. Please book on the day.

Silk Paper Making

Running Times 11:00am / 1:30pm & 3:00pm Thurs & Fri Only

Location: Mendip Hall Stand M29- Creative South West Textiles

Cost To Attend: £12

Thursday & Friday Only: You will be able to create a beautiful and individual piece of silk paper, incorporating dried flower petals, with threads and silk fibre embellishment.
Your silk paper can then be mounted and framed, used for decorative card making, or as exquisite wrapping paper.
All materials are provided.

Create A piece of Nuno felt suitable for Lampshade cover.

Create a sumptuous nuno piece (approx. A3 in size) using finest merino, embellished with lustrious pearled Leicester Longwool and silk fibres. "Tailor Made" for lampshade or vessel cover, and/or further embroidery.

Daily Needle Felt Harvest Mouse Workshop Come and learn to needle felt with Steffi from The Makerss on this sweet harvest mouse workshop! Learn simple wire armature techniques and add details, to create your own harvest mouse!

Furzie Felt

Location: Mendip Hall Stand M15 - Furzie Felt

Price to attend: £10 per person

Needle-felt a Furzie animal head from wool on a decorative twizzle stick. The workshops are £10, last 60 to 90 minutes and include materials to make and take home an animal head. Suitable for beginners and those with experience, adults and children over 12 years.

Contempory Nuno Feltmaking

Hand Felted Soaps

Running Times: 11:00am / 12:00pm / 2:00pm & 3:00pm

Cost to Attend: £5.00 

Why not join us for this fun filled workshop.
Hand felted soaps are naturally exfoliating, so you can jump in the shower just as it is, it is also naturally anti-bacterial, it won’t leave any residue on your sink, the soap will last longer and the felt will continue to shrink down with the soap as it is used, continuing to look attractive and small lovely.
 
You will be using merino wool and silk and be shown how to lay down the fibres around your soap, before felting it. The workshop will take 45 mins – an hour.

Caravan or Campervan Coaster

Running Times: 10:30am & 12:30pm

Location: Stand G2- Anne Hellyer

Creating a unique fabric coaster to take home and stitch you will be using a combination of appliqué, paint, pens, coloured pencils and my hand painted fabrics. There will be a several designs to choose from. The cost also  includes the backing fabric, heat resistant wadding and bias binding needed  to complete the project at home.  You can book in advance by emailing me at annehellyer@outlook.com.  Maximum of 9 people. A busy but fun hour, not only will you have a memento of your visit to the show to keep, or send to a friend. You will also learn how to create your own painted fabrics for future projects

Needle Felted Country Scene

Experience necessary. Bring your own photo and learn the techniques to create your own 2D/3D head portrait. Joan will teach and guide you through how to create your own personal pet in wool.
 
All materials and use of tools is included. This workshop is scheduled for an hour, but is likely to run over if you wish to complete it at the show, but you will know all the methods and be given sufficient materials to continue at home should you need to go after the hour.
