Bristol Upholstery Collective: Reimagining the Art of Upholstery

Where heritage craft skills meet contemporary design, creativity and a more sustainable approach to the furniture we live with.

Bristol Upholstery Collective is an AMUSF Training Centre, design studio and working upholstery practice bringing together traditional craftsmanship with a fresh, creative approach. Approved by the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers, the team are highly qualified traditional and modern upholsterers who are passionate about sharing their skills and introducing more people to the possibilities of upholstery.

Their work goes far beyond simply restoring furniture. Through collaborations with surface pattern designers, embroidery artists, textile designers, painters and interior designers, Bristol Upholstery Collective explores how furniture can become a truly individual piece of design. At the heart of their practice is a belief in quality, handmade processes and the importance of preserving heritage craft skills, while encouraging us to think differently about the objects we choose to keep in our homes.

Sustainability is also central to their approach. Rather than seeing furniture as disposable, the Collective champions beautifully made pieces that can be restored, maintained and enjoyed for a lifetime, creating a more meaningful connection between people and the things they own.

We’re delighted to welcome Bristol Upholstery Collective to this year’s show. As well as showcasing their work, they’ll also be joining us for a special talk, sharing more about their approach to creative upholstery, craftsmanship and sustainable design.
