Honiton Lace: Watch, Learn and Have a Go with Devon Bobbin Lace

Honiton lace demonstrations throughout the show, with a free hands-on try-it-yourself opportunity.

Step into a living piece of Devon heritage with Honiton lace demonstrations on the stand. Honiton lace is a traditional East Devon bobbin lace, worked on a lace pillow using multiple bobbins and pins. It’s especially known for its delicate floral motifs (“sprigs”), which are often made separately and then joined onto a fine net background to create beautifully detailed designs.

Throughout the show, you can stop by at the Devon Bobbin Lace stand at any time to watch the techniques up close, ask questions, and even practice on a pillow at the stand. It’s completely free, informal, and beginner-friendly — perfect if you’ve always been curious about lace-making and want to see how it’s done before trying it yourself.
