Indian Hangings - Inspired by India

Indian-Inspired Textile Hanging with Handmade Paper Beads

Cost to attend: £10

Location: Stand no. 104

Running Times: Thursday Only (Duration 1 hour))

  • Class 1 : 10:30am

  • Class 2: 12:30pm

  • Class 3: 2:30pm

In this vibrant and creative workshop, you’ll make a brightly coloured textile hanging inspired by traditional Suffolk Puffs (also known as yo-yos), brought to life with handmade paper beads and a distinctly Indian influence. It’s a joyful session that combines fabric, colour, pattern and texture, perfect for anyone who loves mixed media, decorative stitching, or simply wants to try something a little different.

You’ll be guided through creating a small hanging using layered fabric shapes, thoughtfully arranged to form a striking, tactile design. Along the way, you’ll learn how to make attractive paper beads from carefully selected papers, a simple but brilliant technique that produces surprisingly polished results. Once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll see just how versatile paper beads can be: use them for jewellery, keyrings, garlands, bag charms, gift wrap embellishments, or to add a pop of colour and movement to future textile pieces.

This workshop is ideal for beginners and more experienced crafters alike, with plenty of scope to personalise your piece through your choice of colours and bead styles. Expect a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with step-by-step instruction, plus lots of inspiration for how you can take the techniques further at home.

You’ll leave with a finished textile hanging to display, and the confidence to keep making paper beads for all sorts of creative projects long after the show.
