Alice Aphra: Bristol-Based Embroiderer

Layer, Stitch, Tell: The Art of Narrative Textiles

Alice Aphra — Freelance Embroiderer (Bristol)

We’re thrilled to welcome Alice to Craft4Crafters & Stitching4All — her first time at the show. A Bristol-based embroiderer, Alice blends stitch with collage and mixed media, weaving storytelling through every piece. Her practice grew from a wide foundation across ceramics, acid etching and analogue photography, and you’ll see that adventurous spirit in how she combines unusual materials and techniques. Themes of identity and heritage run as a constant thread, giving her work depth, character and heart.

Alice’s experience spans the industry’s heritage and cutting edge — from internships with Hand & Lock to Hermione de Paula — and she’s already been recognised with the Trailblazer Award for her “Guardians of Nature” kids wear collection.

You can meet Alice Thursday and Friday at her stand. See textures and layered surfaces up close, ask about process and material choices, and pick up confidence-building tips for mixing stitch with collage in your own projects. It’s a chance to discover fresh ideas, explore small works, and get friendly advice on starting or advancing a multimedia approach.

We can’t wait to have Alice with us — come say hello, be inspired by her storytelling embroidery, and leave brimming with new techniques to try at home.
