Discover Traditional Blacksmithing at Westpoint Forge
Running time: throughout the three days
Where: Stand F1
Westpoint Forge is home to the Blacksmiths and Metalworkers Association of the South West (BMASW), a passionate community dedicated to keeping traditional metalworking skills alive and supporting blacksmithing across the region.
BMASW proudly runs the metalworking competitions at the Devon County Show, part of a national circuit held at major events around the country. Competitors enter both static and live classes, with champions and reserve champions collecting points across the season, leading to the announcement of the National Champion and Reserve Champion Blacksmith each October.
To support and grow the craft, Westpoint Forge also hosts popular blacksmithing taster courses at Westpoint, introducing the fundamentals of forging and forming. Techniques can include tapering, scrolling, punching and twisting, giving beginners a hands-on insight into what blacksmithing is all about.
BMASW members meet at Westpoint on the second Saturday of every month, where metalworkers can hire a hearth, work on their own projects, swap ideas, and share a brew while talking all things metal.
At Craft4Crafters, come and meet the team, chat to members about the craft, find out more about taster courses and competitions, and browse a selection of handcrafted metalwork made by BMASW members.
